I survived Day 1 and I'm ready for more. Some easy things I added to my day: Instead of driving to my neighbor Victoria's place I decided to walk and my positive affirmation today was "I'm stronger than I think." Also, this morning I drank a large glass of water with lemon and a hint of cayenne pepper, which is part of the cleanse. It's supposedly great for circulation and loaded with anti-oxidants. It's supposed to make you think clearer too... I'll get back to you on that one!

21 day Adventure Cleanse- Day 1

It's Day 1 of this cleanse from the book "Crazy Sexy Diet" and I'm giving it somewhat of a shot. It's pretty much everything you could think a cleanse would be. No sugar, cut out dairy and drink that so called "green juice." Also, incuding some food for thought based around spiritual awareness.
Since I like to take baby steps with just about everything I do, I thought I would start with the eliminating caffeine. Actually, not so fast. So, I didnt eliminate coffee, but I thought for the next 21-days I would only drink my coffee with no sugar. So far so good.
Also, during the next couple of weeks, I'm going to pay attention to Gluten-free items and incorporate it into my diet. My favorite Gluten-free bite of the moment are Pure Organic Bars in apple cinnamon.

Decoding Poultry Labels
Free Range: A USDA-regulated designation, meaning only that the bird had access to the outdoors.
Farm Raised: Usually refers to chickens raised on a local farm, but technically all are raised on a farm of some sort.
Certified Organic: All feed given to the birds must be certified organic—it doesn't contain chemical fertilizers, pesticides, animal by-products, or other additives.
Natural: The most commonly used label has nothing to do with standards of care, type, or quality; it simply indicates no additives or preservatives were added after the poultry was processed.
Hormone-Free: Irrelevant—no artificial hormones are used in any poultry production.
Raised Without Antibiotics: Medications not classified as antibiotics may still be used.

The most interesting conversations I have had with people have been taxi drivers. While in San Francisco I was told by a Taxi Driver that by 2012 all drivers will only be able to operate if they are driving a hybrid. However, hybrids may not be the most accommodating for a city that is rather hilly???

Eco-friendly Clothing Tips from overstock.com:

-Choose organic clothing. Organic clothing materials, including organic cotton, are grown without pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers.

-Look for bamboo and hemp pieces. These fibers require much less water and other resources to grow.

-Buy clothing with natural dyes. Chemical dyes release toxins into the air during production, and the clothes dyed with them can irritate sensitive skin.

-Wash your clothes only when necessary. When you put on an outfit and only wear it around the house for a few hours, it probably doesn't need to be washed yet. Before you throw anything in the hamper, think about whether or not you could get another wear out of it. If you can, hang it back up in your closet.

-Install energy-efficient appliances. Upgrade your washer and dryer to Energy Star models.

-Air-dry your clothes when you can. Use even less power by air-drying your clothes outside on a clothesline. When the sun is out, this gives your clothes a fresh scent. If your clothes stiffen while hanging on the line, mix one capful of clear fabric softener with one cup of clean water in a spray bottle and shake to combine. Then spray the mixture on the clothes and shake them out. This method is also best when washing delicate bamboo items or other green clothing pieces.

-Sell or donate gently worn clothing.

-Recycle worn-out clothing. Old T-shirts make excellent dust cloths, and old jeans can be cut up to make a quilt.

-Buy or make eco-friendly accessories.

We all know that eating healthy is expensive and True Food Kitchen definitely proves it. Leave it up to Orange County to put their own glamorized spin on eating healthy. I'm sure at some point a "Real Housewive" was sitting near me.

With the amount of implants and plastic surgery in the restaurant it felt like a bit of an oxy-moron to be eating in a restaurant that promotes locally and regionally grown food that is great for the body and mind.

Overall, the portions are small, expensive and this place makes Whole Foods look cheap. My favorite part about the whole experience... the Dyson Airblade hand dryer in the bathroom.

I was fascinated with all the colors and designs that could come from simply rolling strips of magazine paper onto a toothpick. With one small drop of glue at the end of the paper to seal it and two coats of varnish the paper beads took on a very colorful, interesting look and every single bead was different. Cut the lemons and oranges into slices, and combine in a small pan. Add three cups of water. Boil on low heat for about 30 minutes, adding more water if necessary. Strain water and cool for 15 minutes. Place the liquid in the spray bottle and keep in the refrigerator.

Since there are no preservatives, spray will last for about a week. Keep some lemons and oranges on hand and you got yourself a refill.

Solomon talked about the importance of water and the sense of urgency that needs to be taken into consideration since its one of our most important resources. I mean think about... For whatever reason whenever I'm with gal pal Victoria P., I always learn another way to be eco-friendly. While making our way around the city we came across the El Segundo 5-miute car wash. I was a huge fan as soon as I read a sign that said that they recylcle the water used to wash your car. As much as we all love washing our cars at home, we are actually conserving water by going to a car wash that recycles its own water. National Geographic is by far one of my favorite reading materials. I especially love when they have Special Issues. For the month of April, they have introduced the Water Issue. Overnight Kate Gosselin ruined a beloved hair trend with long locks and an extension bill large enough to bail us out of national debt. But many women started to ponder, hmmm, what if I added eight inches, would it look natural? While adding hair extensions is as inconspicuous as a baby at a bar, the hair itself can still be natural and green. Yes Goldilocks, hair can be eco-friendly.

We all, for the most part, are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint, so why not start with our hair? Salons all over the world are embracing the “green” movement. But most salon efforts range from hair recycling programs to chemical-free hair products. The list goes on, just ask Susy Borlido, director of the government funded business greening program for Sustainable Works in Santa Monica, California. Here are just a few “green”steps salons are taking:

Hair Recycling Program. Did you know hair naturally absorbs oil? Matter of Trust is a non-profit organization that accepts hair clippings from hair salons and creates mesh hair mats with them. These mats are then used to soak up oil spills in the ocean. Getting a haircut never felt so good. www.matteroftrust.org

Hair Extensions. Enjoy long locks without jeopardizing the environment. Pure Extensions is an eco-friendly hair extension company that uses a cold bond application that is completely free of heat, wax, chemicals and glue. However, salons that do extensions are still being eco-conscious if they are recycling the hair.

Recycling. Salons can recycle everything from the foils that are placed on your head to the plastic cap that covers your hair during a deep-conditioning treatment. Color tubes and the packaging they come in, along with any plastic or cardboard that makes its way into the salon can also be recycled.

Hair Color. You can still be a natural beauty and color your hair. Eco Colors is a non-toxic permanent haircolor. It’s sulfite free, paraben free, propylene glycol free and ethanolamine free. www.ecocolors.net
